Julia K. Seymour’s interest in Special Education was first sparked in 2002 when she began working as an Instructional Aide. After falling in love with the work, she decided to pursue a career in Special Education as a teacher. She enrolled in a Masters and Teaching Credential program in 2004, and in 2006 she earned her M.Ed. in Cross Categorical Special Education. She became a mentor teacher where she worked closely with school administration and staff, training and mentoring new teachers and teaching assistants. She has also worked as a Behavioral Therapist implementing positive reinforcement and ABA strategies and techniques in classroom and home settings. In 2012, she accepted a position as an Assistant Principal for middle school and high school. A year later, she accepted the position as Principal of High School and Vocational /Adult Programs. In 2015, Julia joined Five Keys, leading the Special Education Department. She is responsible for special education and related services for all incarcerated and community sites that qualify under State and Federal criteria. She works closely with school, service provider, community, SELPA and Sheriff's Department staff to ensure all students are accessing the curriculum and achieving at their full potential. She oversees the Special Education Program in San Francisco, Solano, San Mateo, Alameda, San Bernardino and Los Angeles County regions. In her free time Julia loves to travel, cook using ingredients she finds at her local farmers market, and camp with her family, and Havanese dog rescue.
