S.F. jail inmates to have access to computer tablets
SF Gate, October 22, 2014
Cutting edge technology isn't normally available to the more than 2 million men and women jailed in the United States — cost, security concerns, and a criminal justice system that has favored punishment over rehabilitation are among the reasons.
But more than 100 inmates in San Francisco County Jails will soon have access to secure computer tablets they may use for a limited number of tasks: To do homework assignments, read novels, prepare for their criminal cases and — eventually — communicate with family members, probation officers and others on the outside.
